FAQ — SecureSign Online Notary LLC

Question 1

What is a notary public and what do they do?

Accepted Answer

A notary public is a state-commissioned official authorized to witness the signing of important documents, verify the identity of signers, and apply an official seal. Notarization helps deter fraud and confirms that signatures are genuine and voluntary.

Question 2

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Accepted Answer

You'll need a valid, government-issued photo ID — such as a driver's license, state ID, or passport. The document to be notarized should be unsigned at the time of the appointment; you must sign in the notary's presence. Do not sign the document beforehand.

Question 3

Can you come to my location?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are a mobile notary service and travel to clients at a location convenient to you — your home, workplace, a coffee shop, a library, or any other agreed-upon location. We do not have a fixed office where clients are seen.

Question 4

How far in advance do I need to schedule?

Accepted Answer

We recommend scheduling at least 24 hours in advance when possible, though we do our best to accommodate same-day and urgent requests. Contact us and we'll let you know our availability.

Question 5

What types of documents can you notarize?

Accepted Answer

We notarize a wide range of documents, including affidavits, powers of attorney, wills and trusts, deeds, contracts, medical directives, financial documents, school documents, auto transfer documents, and more. Definitions: An affidavit is a written statement of facts. A jurat is a notarial certificate completed when the signer personally swears or affirms before the notary that the statement is true. If you're unsure whether your document qualifies or which notarial act it needs, just ask.

Question 6

What is Remote Online Notarization (RON)?

Accepted Answer

Remote Online Notarization (RON) allows you to get documents notarized entirely online via a secure, live audio-visual session — no in-person meeting required. The notary verifies your identity digitally, witnesses your electronic signature, and applies a digital seal. RON is legally valid in most U.S. states.

Question 7

What do I need for an online notary session?

Accepted Answer

You'll need a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone), a stable internet connection, a valid government-issued photo ID, and the document ready to sign electronically. We'll send you a secure link before your appointment.

Question 8

Is online notarization legally valid?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Remote Online Notarization is legally recognized in the majority of U.S. states. However, some states or document types may still require in-person notarization. If you're unsure whether RON is accepted for your specific document or jurisdiction, we're happy to advise.

Question 9

How does identity verification work for online sessions?

Accepted Answer

We use a MISMO-compliant identity verification process that includes knowledge-based authentication (KBA) questions and credential analysis of your government-issued ID. This process meets or exceeds the standards required for RON in applicable states.

Question 10

Can I use RON if I'm outside the United States?

Accepted Answer

In many cases, yes. U.S. citizens abroad can often use RON for documents governed by U.S. law. However, requirements vary by document type and destination country. Contact us to discuss your specific situation before scheduling.

Question 11

What is a Certified Loan Signing Agent?

Accepted Answer

A Certified Loan Signing Agent (CLSA) is a notary who has received specialized training to handle real estate loan and mortgage closing packages. We work with borrowers, title companies, escrow officers, and lenders to ensure every document in the closing package is properly signed, initialed, and notarized.

Question 12

Do you work with title companies and lenders?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We work directly with title companies, escrow officers, and lenders to receive the loan package, coordinate with the borrower, and return completed documents promptly. We are NNA background screened and E&O insured, meeting the requirements of most title companies.

Question 13

Where do loan signings take place?

Accepted Answer

We travel to the borrower's preferred location — their home, workplace, or any other convenient location. We coordinate the time and place directly with the borrower and the title company or lender.

Question 14

How long does a loan signing appointment take?

Accepted Answer

Most loan signing appointments take between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on the size of the loan package and the number of documents requiring signatures. We walk borrowers through each document clearly and patiently.

Question 15

What is I-9 verification and why do employers need it?

Accepted Answer

Form I-9 is a federal USCIS form used to verify the identity and employment authorization of every person hired to work in the United States. Employers are legally required to complete an I-9 for each new hire within three business days of their start date.

Question 16

When would an employer use a third-party I-9 authorized representative?

Accepted Answer

Employers commonly use an authorized representative when a new hire is located in a different city or state, works remotely, or when the employer does not have HR staff available to complete Section 2 in person. We act as the employer's designated representative to physically examine the employee's documents and complete Section 2.

Question 17

What documents are accepted for I-9 verification?

Accepted Answer

Acceptable documents fall into three lists. List A documents establish both identity and work authorization (e.g., U.S. Passport, Permanent Resident Card, Employment Authorization Document). List B establishes identity only (e.g., driver's license, state ID). List C establishes work authorization only (e.g., Social Security card, birth certificate). The employee may present one List A document, or one List B plus one List C document.

Question 18

Does the employee need to be present in person?

Accepted Answer

Yes. For physical document examination, the employee must be present in person so we can physically inspect the original documents. We travel to the employee's location to make this as convenient as possible.
